Kurt Rosenwinkel on tour!
The tour started at Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz, CA – where Kendrick Scott replaced Justin – continued to Portland Jazz Festival yesterday, tonight it’s Yoshi’s in San Francisco – you can find the remaining dates by clicking here.
The tour is in support of the Nov. 13, 2012 release of “Star of Jupiter” – an album that has already received an incredible reception from press and fans alike. The New York Times calls Kurt a “a jazz guitarist of glowing lyricism and graceful exposition” and further states that the album is “grounded in deep groove and willfully uncomplicated melody, and the band unpacks them with granite conviction”.
Punctuating the New Quartet dates, Kurt Rosenwinkel will also make some special appearances on this tour that are, perhaps, closer to the work he did on his previous album “Our Secret World“: On March 2 he will appear as a special guest with the KU Jazz Ensemble 1 @ University of Kansas School of Music, and on March 8 he will similarly perform with the Brown Jazz Band at Brown University in Providence, RI.
After those dates the New Quartet will travel to Japan to perform 4 dates on their Song X (our Japanese licensor) tour in support of the Japanese release of “Star of Jupiter”. Song X has been a valued partner of ours both on the touring and recording front ever since the release of “The Remedy”, and Kurt, Aaron, Eric and Justin look very much forward to be back in Japan to present this new music to the Japanese fans! Song X will re-release “The Remedy” in Japan at this time as well!
The tour finishes off with another week at the Village Vanguard March 19-24. And what better place to finish – this is the same place where the band spend a week right before going into the studio to record “Star of Jupiter”. So this will be your chance to hear where the band has come since then almost exactly a year to date after the album was recorded.
And if you can’t catch Kurt at the Village Vanguard in March, then you may have a chance to hear him in NYC again in April – albeit in quite a different setting. This time Kurt will appear at Eric Clapton‘s Crossroads Festival[email protected]Madison Square Garden on April 12, where he will perform a couple of songs from “Star of Jupiter” and 1-2 other songs. He will be joined on stage by Eric Clapton himself as well as by Allan Holdsworth. We know – it’s pretty incredible! Kurt’s band will feature Aaron Parks (pia), Reuben Rogers (b) & Obed Calvaire (dr) on this occasion.
