Kurt Rosenwinkel @ Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival

Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival

In late 2011 we got a call from Eric Clapton’s office, telling us that Clapton was planning to visit NYC to hear Kurt Rosenwinkel perform on 2/28/2012 at the Village Vanguard. They insisted they wanted to pay for the 2 tickets they asked for, but just wanted to make sure that there was seats and it wouldn’t be sold out when they showed up. We were of course more than happy to guarantee them that.

Clapton showed up with his friend and producer Russ Titelman (who produced “Tears in Heaven” as well as an incredible amount of other fantastic albums and tracks like “Chuck E’s in Love” with Rickie Lee Jones, “Ain’t Nobody” with Chaka Khan etc), and after the set told Kurt that he is a true inspiration to Eric these days, and that he had first heard of Kurt when listening to the track “Stoner Hill” from Brian Blade Fellowship’s album “Season of Changes“.

Subsequently Clapton invited Kurt to perform at the Crossroads Guitar Festival, which is a benefit for Clapton’s Antigua drug & alcohol rehabilitation center (located in the West Indies). The event will be held over 2 days in Madison Square Garden on April 12 & 13 (2013) – Kurt is scheduled to perform on April 12. Here’s a list of the guitarists scheduled to perform:

Albert Lee, Allan Holdsworth, Allman Brothers Band, Andy Fairweather Low, BB King, Blake Mills, Booker T, Brad Paisley, Buddy Guy, Citizen Cope, Dave Biller, Doyle Bramhall II, Earl Klugh, Eric Clapton, Gary Clark Jr., Jeff Beck, Jimmy Vaughan, John Mayer, John Scofield, Jonny Lang, Keb Mo, Keith Urban, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Los Lobos, Robbie Robertson, Robert Cray, Robert Randolph, Sonny Landreth, Taj Mahal, Vince Gill

Kurt is one of the performers that gets to bring in his own band for this occasion, which is not true of all the invited performers. On this occasion Kurt will perform with Aaron Parks, Pete Rende, Reuben Rogers and Obed Calvaire. He will also be joined on stage by Eric ClaptonJeff Beck & Allan Holdsworth. Eric Clapton has btw just released a great new album called “Old Sock” – check it out here.

Obviously it’s a great honor for Kurt to be invited to participate in this incredible line-up of who’s who of guitarists, as well as to be invited to perform on stage with Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Allan Holdsworth. Hopefully not a once-in-a-lifetime event, but nonetheless surely one that will stand out forever!

We also want to announce at this time that Kurt will perform at Solo concert in NYC at Le Poisson Rouge on May 25 as well as a Solo concert on May 28 at Festival des Guitares du Monde en Abitibi-Témiscamingue  in Canada. The NYC show marks first time Kurt performs Solo in NYC, even though he has presented his Solo show at the Montreal & Toronto Jazz Festivals, at the Cotton Club in Tokyo, Japan as well as various other venues in Europe and around the world.
