More Kurt dates in US, Paris, Colombia, Mexico & Spain!
After a wonderful if rather rainful performance at Newport Jazz Festival (the 60th anniversary of the festival!) on Aug. 2, Kurt Rosenwinkel is about to bring his New Quartet to more US dates in Denver, Chicago & NYC:
Aug. 28+29: Dazzle Jazz, Denver, CO
Aug. 30: Chicago Jazz Festival, Chicago, IL
Sept. 9-14: Village Vanguard, New York NY
In Denver and Chicago the line-up will be Kurt on guitar, Aaron Parks on piano, Eric Revis on bass and Colin Stranahan on drums (Denver is Colin’s hometown). At the Vanguard the line-up is: Aaron Parks (pia), Orlando Le Fleming (b) & Allan Mednard (dr). The repertoire of the band will be focused around the 2012 Wommusic release “Star of Jupiter“, although there’s been a couple of additions to the repertoire since then notably by Aaron Parks. Kurt has also recently performed songs from his 2008 Wommusic album entitled “The Remedy” (recorded live at the Village Vanguard in 2006) again.
Between Chicago and Village Vanguard Kurt is set to go to Paris (France) for a very unique event: He will special guest with his old friend and musical associate bassist Avishai Cohen & his wonderful Trio. Avishai was of course the bassist on Kurt’s very first recording as a leader entitled “East Coast Love Affair” from 1996, and has since then become a highly successful bandleader performing at large venues all over the world. In Paris they will perform at Jazz a la Vilette on Sept. 5.
Says Kurt about this reunion:
“Dear friends, family and fans,
I am thrilled to announce my upcoming collaboration with the brilliant bassist/composer and band leader, Avishai Cohen. We have known each other since our days as young musicians in New York City in the 1990’s. During that time we shared many mutual friends and played many times together, and ultimately recorded together in 1995 on my first release, “East Coast Love Affair”. Since then Avishai has gone on to develop his unique and rich music and has enjoyed great success worldwide. We have talked for years about collaborating and I am happy to announce that this is now happening and will begin with a concert in Paris on September 5 at the prestigious Jazz a La Vilette Festival.
We hope you all join us for this reunion and new beginning.
See you in Paris!
After the Village Vanguard Kurt will travel to Colombia for his first ever performance there. There will be a master class on Sept. 18 and a Solo Concert on Sept. 19 both held at theEscuela de Musica y Audio Fernando Sor. New Quartet performances are also confirmed in Mexico again in October in Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua (more details to follow), and on Oct. 30 Kurt will reunite with Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos (with whom he recorded “Our Secret World” released in 2010) at the wonderful Barcelona Jazz Festival. After that Kurt wil do some European dates with his New Quartet.
Stay tuned for more info and concerts to be announced shortly.
