washabaugh 11200@http://www.kurtrosenwinkel.com/forum/
I'm looking for solutions to help "angle" my guitar up while standing. Basically I need something that can simulate my beer gut when I play sitting down :)

Seriously, when I play standing up, the face of my guitar (Benedetto Bambino) is almost pointing downwards due to how the back hits my chest/stomach. I've tried playing with the strap length but when I do, I feel too much tension in my shoulders from holding arms up. Does anyone know of anything that's made that attaches to the back of your guitar that would help bring it off of your body an inch or two?

Thanks,
Benjamin

It's always best to try a guitar out before buying it if possible. I owned a pre-Comins re-design D'Angelico 335 that was a good guitar, but the Eastman T185 I had was a much better instrument. I hear the newer D'Angelicos are better, but haven't played them.

Also, having a good luthier set up the guitar can make a HUGE difference in playability.

beilenguitars 8089@http://www.kurtrosenwinkel.com/forum/
Mono Cases will not fit an ES-175 model or anything similar to an arched top instrument. They are the correct width at the lower and upper bouts for an ES-175 but they are not the correct length to fit the guitar body. The dimensions listed on their site for the dreadnaught only allow for a body that is 16" in length. My '86 ES-175 has a body length of about 20 3/8"

The problem with these case companies is that they rarely list the body length dimensions. The Levy website only lists the total guitar length and the width at the lower bout - they do not even offer an upper bout option. I have heard a lot of bad reviews over the Levy LM20 - mostly concerning the zipper not allowing the case to be opened fully so the guitar must be shoved in to fit; NOT for me.

Our problem is really the length of the body itself. Most of these cases are wide enough, deep enough, and long enough for the body and neck.

I think the best bet is contacting Cronkhite for a real gig bag situation. However, I am considering a Keith Calton UK case by ordering directly from him (not the Canadian Brand!) He quoted me a price that was equivalent of just under $680 for a carbon fiber case that has connections for back packing abilities. Although there is a quote, it has been a strong consideration of mine since I contacted him earlier this week.

I hope it helps.

All the best,

Brian

There are just a few jazz guitar players here, and the guitars they have they keep them or, if they sell them, they're mostly gibsons and ask more than 1500 for them.

Sometimes I think I should take a plane to Madrid and buy a guitar there, it might be cheaper...

jorgemg1984 4759@http://www.kurtrosenwinkel.com/forum/
Hi Jorge!

I have the same problem you do, I live in Lisbon and there´s toans of gear I will never be able to try. I think giving advice on guitars its really hard, much harder than amps or pedals - its a much more personal choice and amps or pedals sound all the same which doesnt happen at all with guitars. I was really lucky to find a 1965 Guild X-500 here in Lisbon at a decent price (2000€) and I never looked back, its amazing.

If I were you I would save more money. I dont think a 1000€ guitars will be a HUGE improvemet over your ibanez - save more money, wait for a good opportunity and buy something you really like and that will be really better than the guitar you currently have. But I know its tough to wait... You live in Spain right? Where exactly?

Good luck!

InWalked 4750@http://www.kurtrosenwinkel.com/forum/
If you can find a Korean-made Epiphone from the 90s those are pretty nice. I have an Emperor Regent that I really like - floating mini-humbucker and only one drill hole in the body for input. I paid around $750 for mine back then so my guess you can find one used for less. The Japanese-made Epi Elitist that came out a few years ago were also nice but were almost as much as the Eastmans. Good luck with your purchase.

JorgeRubiales 4746@http://www.kurtrosenwinkel.com/forum/
Hello! Lately I've been looking for a better archtop (I currently have an Ibanez AF75 maple body, twin humbucker. Amazing neck, decent electric tone, but too bright sometimes). I'm needing a spruce top, floating humbucker, really resonant acoustic archtop.

I must say that I've narrowed it down to 5 models, of which I've only played one of them. Where I live there aren't many options, so I must buy on internet, based on specs. That's why I seek help of people who actually have played some of these models, to see if the production have any consistency, and how are they quality-wise.

The only guitar that I've tried is the Peerless Manhattan. Great guitar, and I could afford it at the price they have it in a local store if I save up a little. I found it as comfortable as my Ibanez, which is a really good compliment, and it had a wonderful sound. It even fooled us into thinking it was a carved top. That said, here's my list, from cheaper to more expensive:

Hofner HCT-J17
Aria FA 71
The Loar LH-650
Peerless Mahnattan
D'angelico EXL-1DP (korean)

So please, if you have played any of these, I will welcome your comments. Not only on sound and playability, but also on fit&finish areas. I don't want to spend a little fortune modding a guitar where I can have one already "finished", if you know what I mean.

I will check deeply about that.

@docbop - i was a little skeptical about gigbag for an archtop but it seems there are some really nice and "strong build" models. I already thick padded the handle of my case and it helps a lot but to walk whit the guitar on the back and free hands seems to me something really inviting. I don't think that carry my case on the shoulder ( using a strap or similar, as you suggested ) will give me the same "freedom and lightness" of a well made gigbag. The original case is a damned heavy ( but also durable ) thing : )

I am not in hurry so my research about the "holy grail of gigbag" is still in progress : )

Thanks

All the Best
Animitta

docbop 2373@http://www.kurtrosenwinkel.com/forum/
I love gigbags for my solid-body guitars and basses, but an archtop I'm a bit leery of. I like the Reunion Blues bags have one for one of my basses, and like the leather bags for 335's but $$$. If you travel a lot look for a bag with a built-in coat hook so you can hang it in coat closet on airplanes.

Carrying a case can get to be a hassle, I got a replacement handle for my case and it is less rigid and that helps. Also some cases or could probably have then added are rings for attaching a shoulder strap.

sortell 2368@http://www.kurtrosenwinkel.com/forum/
The IGIG makes great bag as well. http://www.mikobass.com/Shop/iGIG/index.htm I don't have one myself but I saw them at the NAMM show last year, and they seem really good.

Also, if money is not an issue, you can consider Glenn Chronkhite, the original founder of Reunion Blues. (http://www.glenncronkhite.com/ ) He can make a custom bag for you. In my opinion they are better quality than newer Reunion Blues.

Anonymous 2366@http://www.kurtrosenwinkel.com/forum/
monocase makes one for acoustic which should fit a 175 nicely. i use the semi hollow case for my d'angelico ny-dc and love it.
