Kurt's Use Of Pentatonics

    Hi guys,

    Does anyone know which pentatonics Kurt uses when playing over a particular type of chord? For example, if he was playing over Amaj9 would he typically use Ab minor pentatonic or maybe C# minor pentatonic? What about altered chords? Would he use minor pentatonic up a minor third from the root of the chord or something else?

    Any help is appreciated.

    I can't say for sure how he has mapped out pentatonics but I have heard him mention a book by a guy named Adelhard Roidinger on the subject. I have never been able to find the book here in the States.

    Hi Smoke, that books looks interesting. I have seen another pentatonic book online by Ramon Ricker, atlhough never seen what's inside it.

    I did look at the Music of Kurt Rosenwinkel blog post here -

    and this is very helpful. But I am wondering if Kurt uses different pentatonics to make things sound outside or just plain hip!

    Bergonzi book is pretty nice... As to Kurt's approach just transcribe him :)

    Hi Jorge - i must look into the Bergonzi book.

    I'm not much use at transcribing though. I will contact the chap who maintains the Kurt blog.
