    Hi guys,

Does anyone know which pentatonics Kurt uses when playing over a particular type of chord? For example, if he was playing over Amaj9 would he typically use Ab minor pentatonic or maybe C# minor pentatonic? What about altered chords? Would he use minor pentatonic up a minor third from the root of the chord or something else?

    Any help is appreciated.

I can't say for sure how he has mapped out pentatonics but I have heard him mention a book by a guy named Adelhard Roidinger on the subject. I have never been able to find the book here in the States.

I'd be interested in looking at it but it seems impossible to find.

Hi Smoke, that books looks interesting. I have seen another pentatonic book online by Ramon Ricker, atlhough never seen what's inside it.

I did look at the Music of Kurt Rosenwinkel blog post here -

and this is very helpful. But I am wondering if Kurt uses different pentatonics to make things sound outside or just plain hip!

Bergonzi book is pretty nice... As to Kurt's approach just transcribe him :)

Hi Jorge - i must look into the Bergonzi book.

I'm not much use at transcribing though. I will contact the chap who maintains the Kurt blog.
